Tower Quest

If you've ever sat through 12 hours of added extras in the Lord of the Rings boxed set, experienced even a sniff of Game of Thrones, or 'fessed up to a game of Magic playing cards when you were a teenager, chances are You’ll get totally nostalgic about Play 'n GO's latest lush-looking slot: Tower Quest. Set in a world of elves, wizards and warriors, Tower Quest is packed with amazing graphics, immersive bonus features, and potentially big wins. So is it a case of Fellowship of the Ring or Dungeons & Dragons: The Cartoon? Let's take a closer look. Played over five reels and 20 paylines, Tower Quest looks like something straight out of a fantasy novel: all graphic novel flourishes in the characters and beautiful rendering on the backdrops. In terms of characters, we get an elf warrior (the top payer at 175 coins), a buxom redhead who certainly ticks the box marked 'kick ass', a dragon, an orc, and a skeleton warrior. The Wild is the Tower, and not only does it substitute for all regular icons in the game except the Scatters, it appears stacked on the reels for big wins.

BONUS FEATURES

Card Battle Bonus

While Tower Quest looks and sounds great, it's in the many bonus levels where the game really shines. The Card Battle Bonus is triggered by getting three Wizard Scatters on the reels at the same time. Here's where yourMagic: The Gathering experience comes in. During the bonus game you play a game of cards against the evil wizard, your goal being to inflict enough damage to reduce the evil wizard’s health point to 0 and win the jackpot. First, roll the dice to determine which cards you will play with. The colour-coded cards are placed on the table in the appropriate slots, and then you let battle commence! You and your enemy battle off against each other as you compare Attack and Health values on respective cards. Each defeated card awards a prize and also inflicts 1 damage on the card-holder. If you or the evil wizard manages to roll the same value on two or more of the dice, a special attack is awarded which will deal 1 damage to each enemy card as well as the enemy player. If you or the wizard manages to roll the same value on all three dice, the super power will activate, which will double the attack value of that player’s cards.

Blue Free Spins

Blue Free Spins are manually triggered once you collect enough Blue Mana symbols during the main game. Five symbols unlocks Leval 1, 10 symbols unlocks Level 2, while 15 symbols unlocks Level 3. Only the latest level unlocked can be activated. In Level 1: The Tower, a Sticky Wild appears on Reel 3 for one turn and gives you a 2x multiplier. In Level 2 - Battle of the Wilds - the five highest paying icons (the Orc, Elf et al) all act as temporary Wilds for one spin. Finally, Level 3 - Towers of Dark Power - sees Reels 1, 3 and 5 turn into Sticky Wilds for one spin, meaning you'll be guaranteed wins regardless.

Red Free Spins

Red Free Spins are manually triggered too. Collecting 10 or more red health potion Scatters triggers some juicy free spins in the same way as the Blues: Level 1 - Empowered Wilds - sees all Wild wins multiplied by three for the duration of five spins. Level 2's Wild Adventures makes the male and female elf symbols Wild for five spins. Finally, Level 3 - Everburning Wilds - sees a Sticky Wild added to the reels for five spins.

TOP TIPS

• Don’t worry about logging off and losing any collected potions. The collection progress is stored for 90 days, so you can return and carry on where you left off. Make sure you stick to the same bet amount, though, as changing the total bet resets the collect to zero until you change it back.

• Depending on the preferred playing style, the player can choose to trigger the red and blue free spin features any time they like, as long as at least one level has been unlocked.

• During the Card Bonus game, aim to get cards with high attack values and high health values to be able to deal enough damage to the enemy cards, but also to survive the enemy’s attacks! It’s more preferable to have high attack value than high health value, because all defeated cards award prizes, even if your character is defeated.

• During the same bonus, it’s best to get dice results that are the same. If two dice show the same value, you perform a special attack which reduces the health value of all the Wizard’s cards as well as the Wizard himself by 1. If all three dice show the same value, you perform the above attack, but your cards are also super-charged and get double attack value. Both these effects can also be triggered by the Wizard against you.
